Are you a tradesman willing to donate your time to help repair the hall? Or a volunteer happy to donate free time there?

Elm Park Community Hall helps many residents in its area. It hosts many classes from fitness, dancing and was a designated warm space during the cold months for its local residents. Now, it is in desperate need of help from the local community as it finds itself with a leaky roof and sky high gas bills.

On Tuesday 9 May, locals who attend the zumba class at the hall arrived to find it water logged. A hole in the roof had left the floor completely covered in water.

Vice Chair of the Elm Park Community Association Rebecca told the Havering Daily: “We were devastated to find our hall floor was water logged. This is a huge blow for us.

“The new committee took over in 2021 and we have faced hurdle after hurdle. Everytime we fix one problem, another arises.

“We have a gas bill of £1800 each month as we have three gas metres here. We have repeatedly asked the gas company to come and change them and make them just one, but so far they haven’t done it. We are struggling as the heating system needs to be completely changed.

“Now we have a hole in the roof and have been quoted £70,000 to have it repaired.

“This hall is such an important part of our community as it serves so many people on a daily basis. Without it we would lose a vital part of Elm Park. We are doing everything we can to fundraise and raise money for a new roof and new heating system but the bills are escalating.

“Many of our residents here would be overlooked if it wasn’t for our hall as Elm Park is a small community.”

The team are asking any tradesman who have a few hours to spare or even locals who have time to volunteer to please get in touch and help the hall keep going.

“We want to keep our hall going, it brings so many people together and provides such a vital service for locals here.”
