GLA Member Keith Prince slams Havering Council over parking permit scandal.
Havering and Redbridge GLA Member and Squirrels Heath Councillor Keith Prince has slammed Havering Council over the increase in parking permits that left residents shocked and unaware.
Councillor Prince received many complaints by residents across the borough following the increase in these permits where some were doubled in price without residents being told.
Mr Prince told the Havering Daily: “If it were not for the good work of St Edwards ward Councillor David Taylor, this travesty may have not been exposed.
“We are still awaiting the outcome of the investigation which needs to be transparent and let the people of Havering know how this administration failed to either notice or notify residents of these unacceptable rises in permit fees which thankfully due to Conservative lobbying has been much reduced.”
Details of the parking permits charges are available on the Havering website – https://www.havering.gov.uk/parkingpermits, but for ease are:
Resident’s parking permit (per year)
1st permit per household – £40
2nd permit per household – £80
3rd permit per household – £120
Resident’s visitor permits (per 10) – £20
It may take a couple of weeks for the new charges to be in place in the application system (MiPermit), but everyone who has paid already or is about to renew, will receive an automatic refund, which will be processed as quickly as possible via MiPermit. There is no need for residents to apply for the refund.
