Councillors Tackle Parking Issues On Winchester Road In Upminster.
Following ongoing parking issues on Winchester Road in Upminster, three Havering Residents Association councillors visited the area yesterday Tuesday 9 May to talk to residents.
Cabinet Member for Parking and Enforcement Councillor Barry Mugglestone was joined by Ward Councillors Oscar Ford and Chris Wilkins on Winchester Road to look at the parking bays and talk to residents in person about the challenges they face.
The road is the only one on the Cathedral Estate to have marked parking bays and residents who have parked just slightly out of the bay, have been receiving parking tickets.
Parking wardens have been out at 8am on Saturday mornings ticketing vehicles who are parked in the bay but with a tyre just literally a few centimetres out of the marked space. This has caused anger from residents who are fed up with the ongoing situation.
One resident told the Havering Daily: “We are one of the quietest roads in Havering. We are away from shops and stations and no one comes down here, unless they live here. To come and ticket us regularly is just madness.”
In response, the three councillors tackled the issue head on by visiting the area and chatted with residents about the best way forward.
Councillor Mugglestone asked residents on Winchester Road if they did want the marked bays removed and informed them that if the majority of the road were in agreement, then the council would look at removing them.
However, the issue then remains that the road is particularly narrow and vehicles would then be forced to park in the road and would be ticketed if they parked up on the kerb. Due to the narrowness of the road, another factor councillors looked at was the ability for a fire engine or large vehicle to be able to pass.
The three councillors are very active and are working daily with residents on Winchester Road to resolve this situation the best way they can for residents.
