Beam Park Labour Councillors were called on by tenants of the new housing development at Dovers Corner following a partial power cut over the Easter weekend and again last week. Councillors Matt Stanton and Trevor Mckeever responded quickly and held a meeting at the development with officers from Havering Council.

“We are pleased to say that the reason for the power cut has been identified and resolved, and officers are taking the steps required to prevent it recurring. All apartment blocks have been checked and there are no further problems”Councillor Matt Stanton told the Havering Daily.

There are some other issues that remain and Cllrs Stanton and Mckeever are working with residents to resolve these. “Residents of neighbouring houses have made us aware that it is difficult for people in wheelchairs or mobility scooters to access the public footpath connecting New Road to Dunedin Road. We have asked officers to begin correcting this urgently” said Councillor Mckeever.

Cllr Stanton added:”We walked through Damslfly Court, which was affected by the power cut, and reported that there had been no emergency lights. Officers have clarified that while there is emergency lighting, it has a three-hour battery life – which is perfectly legal – and this is why the lights eventually went out.”

There have also been some issues with the allocation of parking spaces on the development and the Council is planning a consultation about placing yellow lines on one side of Dunedin Road to ensure that the roadside bins can be accessed for emptying.

Dagenham and Rainham prospective Parliamentary Candidate Margaret Mullane is glad that residents are now moved in to the new homes after a delay of some months and told the Havering Daily: ” London Fire Brigade wanted some alterations made for safety, and there are now ‘refuge points’ on every corridor outside the lifts where people can shelter in the event of a fire.

“Both Councillors are also working with Council officers to resolve other teething problems so that the families can fully enjoy their new homes.”

Residents have all been delivered a leaflet with contact details for their councillors and other useful numbers, in the event of any future issues.
