Hundreds of Scouts March For The Hornchurch District St.George’s Day Parade.
Despite the wet weather on Sunday 23rd April, hundreds of Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Networkers turned out for the Hornchurch District St. George’s Day Parade.
Each year all of the Scout Groups in Hornchurch get together for a special parade and service to mark St. George’s Day and every part of the group was represented.
The parade left Havering Sixth Form College, Wingletye Lane, Hornchurch at 10am, following the band. Before continuing along Wingletye Lane and arriving at Emerson Park Academy for 11.15am.
At the Academy the Squirrels and Beavers enjoyed a performance of St. George and the Dragon, whilst the older members of the organisations went to the school’s main hall for a service, which included awards to leaders and volunteers for long service.
The Scouts going to Gambia sold donuts after the service at 12noon to fundraise for the Gambia trip.
More information about their expedition can be found here: https://www.ghisp.org.uk/
A big thank you for all those leaders that volunteer and give up their time, not just on the day but each week to run the meetings so enjoyed by those that attended. Thank you to the police for ensuring members’ safety by shutting the roads, and the volunteer marshalls along the route.
