Two bereaved mothers and a Romford Councillor took to the streets of Romford to tackle the issue of knife crime. Sue Hedges, April Hayden, Peguy Kato and St Albans Ward Councillor Judith Holt joined Romford Town Centre Sergeant Wolfe and Neighbourhoods Superintendent Hutchinson, for a Walk and Talk along South Street.

Officers spoke about the incredible work they have been doing across Romford to tackle the serious issue of knife crime and anti social behaviour. They informed the mums and Councillor of the different tactics they have been using including intelligence led stop and search to remove many dangerous weapons, including a samurai sword off the streets of Romford.

Sue Hedges lost her son Ricky Hayden, stabbed to death in 2016 in Marks Gate. Peguy kato lost her son Champion Ghanda ten years ago, brutally stabbed eleven times on the streets of Forest Gate. Both mums have had their lives destroyed and now spend their time tackling knife crime and fighting its horrors.

Friday, the two mums had the opportunity to chat with the officers about their ongoing work and see for themselves the work they are doing on the Romford streets.

Superintendent Hutchinson, Sue Hedges, April Hayden, Peguy Kato, Sergeant Wolfe and Councillor Judith Holt.
