Hornchurch and Upminster Conservatives have urged local residents to please sign their petition to help save Hornchurch Police station. On 20 April Julia Lopez MP will be meeting the Commissioner of the Met Police for a key meeting in a desperate bid to help save our local station.

Over a 1,000 residents have already signed this petition and the local Conservative team are urging Hornchurch and Upminster locals to sign it now so that Hornchurch police station can be saved.

Saving Hornchurch police station will:

1) Ensure a local police presence in Hornchurch and Upminster so that we don’t have to rely on response officers based in Romford.

2) Provide a permanent base for some of the 350 extra police officers recruited into our Borough Command Unit as part of the government’s 2019 manifesto promise.

3) Enable a faster, more effective response to crimes like car theft, burglary, and street muggings by the Havering Joint Task Force – currently based in Hornchurch Police Station.

The campaign is backed by your Conservative London Assembly Member Keith Prince who speaking on the sale, said “While knife crime has fallen, across the country, it has risen in London under Sadiq Khan’s leadership. Knife crime in Havering has increased by 121.4% between January and February this year.”

Conservative Association Chairman Dominic Swan said, “Having a local police station means a faster, more efficient response time to crimes committed in the area. Taking away Hornchurch police station would remove the deterrent to local criminals and allow them to commit their crimes with ease.”

The sale of the police station comes alongside 239 knife crime offences and crime across all categories up 9.6% in Havering since April 2022.

Julia Lopez MP relaunched the police station campaign after meeting community representatives and local officers about crime. She will present the petition to save Hornchurch station on April 20th, so this is the best chance to make the case to save our police station.

Speaking on the sale, Julia has said “The government’s police recruitment drive means we have an extra 350 officers in our local Borough Command Unit. But to be effective, they need a base and a Mayor who actually cares about neighbourhood policing in Havering. It is time for Sadiq Khan to reverse his wrong-headed decision to sell Hornchurch Police Station and show residents that he genuinely wants to grip knife crime and burglaries in our area.”
