Beam Park Labour Councillors, Matt Stanton and Trevor Mckeever are stepping up the campaign to improve road safety at the junction of Marsh Way and the A1306 (New Road).

This junction has been the scene of several collisions involving vehicles turning in the road. In response to this Councillors Stanton and Mckeever arranged a site visit with Transport for London and Havering Highways staff to examine ways to improve safety.

Havering officers will be conducting a traffic count to model how many vehicles are using the junction, and combined with historical collision data, will  work with TfL on possible solutions.

Labour Councillor and former firefighter Trevor Mckeever, reminds drivers that they should approach the junction sensibly. He told the Havering Daily: “If you are turning across traffic on a green light, you have to give way. Too many collisions are happening because people are trying to drive through a gap that isn’t really there. Every person who has been involved in a collision like that would tell you 30 seconds isn’t worth risking your health for.”

Councillor Matthew Stanton is keen for the roads of Havering to be as safe as possible for all users and added: “‘While thankfully there have been no fatal collisions at that junction, people have been seriously hurt, and two cyclists have died in collisions on the other side of the Marsh Way flyover. We’ll be working with council officers and TfL to make the junction safe and keep everyone moving.”
