Figures Revealed Show 88 Met Police Officer Assaults Over The Bank Holiday Weekend.
As the country enjoyed days of celebration for Easter Sunday and the bank holiday weekend, Met Police Officers working across the capital recorded an incredibly high 88 offences against officers over a four day period.
If you are shocked, how about knowing that despite being in just the fourth month of 2023, 1,403 offences have already been recorded against Met Police Officers. Let that sink in for a while.
If you are quick to dismiss this fact-think about what other profession registers this high number of offences against their employees?
Let us reflect on some of these assaults.
Two officers were rammed by a vehicle. Two officers were punched in the face. Numerous were spat on, verbally abused to go with it.
Out of the 88- 24 offences resulted in injury, 17 were race or hate offences.
The bottom line is this is not acceptable, regardless of your thoughts on the Met Police, the majority of these officers do an incredible job across our communities and do not go to work to be assaulted.
The Met Police has been in turmoil for some time now and we all acknowledge including police officers themselves, that there is a lot of work to be done.
There are officers in this force who do not belong there and should never have been given a warrant card.
There are also thousands of decent hardworking officers that joined for all the right reasons and do incredible work across London everyday despite the barrage of abuse they face.
Police officers are the most abused profession in the capital. No other profession gets this level of physical and verbal abuse. There are some saying this is correct following their past history, however, it is these decent hardworking officers that are bearing the brunt of those that has put their force into disrepute.
Today, so many of our officers will be back on our streets doing vital work across our community, ultimately saving lives as many do each day.
There isn’t a day that goes by that these officers are not abused, or as these figures clearly demonstrate, assaulted.
It is indeed very rare to find praise sadly for the work these officers do each day. Yet their work is not only life saving, but invaluable in our community.
Before you judge, ask yourself this-would you step in their shoes for the day?
