A mother of three and mental health sufferer living in Oldchurch Gardens in Romford who has been waiting over a year to be moved after being threatened to have her throat slashed by drug addicts, has been given the option of a move to a property covered in damp and mould and told she could lose her right to further bidding if she does not accept it.

Rebecca suffers with schizophrenia and personality disorder and has been advised by her doctor that she needs to be moved urgently after she was threatened on more than one occasion by those living on the floor above her who are regular drug users.

She told the Havering Daily: “It is so bad here that not even the postal worker enters our building without the support of a police officer. I’m tired of pulling my children away from needles and other drug paraphenalia left all over the stairs and entrance to our building. As soon as walk into the entrance, you can smell the drugs it really is that bad. I have walked through blood on the floor, dogs running wild up and down the stairs, needles all over the floor.

“I have been told that I was going to have my throat slashed and that they were coming for me all infront of my children.

“I had a new kitchen installed by the council and their toilet upstairs must have leaked and my whole ceiling went brown. They wouldn’t allow the council workers to come and repair their toilet that was clearly leaking, so I was left with the water coming down my ceiling and walls.”

Rebecca’s doctor and the police have both told her she needs to be urgently moved due to the impact this is having on her and her family.

“I have been waiting over a year to be moved and I was informed a few months ago that a property had been found for me, a house in Hornchurch that I could move into straight away. They advised me to pack quickly which I did and to go and see the property.

“When I arrived with the lady from the Move Out team from the council, she opened the door and said, ‘Oh my!’. The property had damp and mould everywhere. It was really dreadful.

“She then went on to say that I could not move there and that the only person that should be visiting the property was a surveyor.”

Rebecca was told that if she did not accept the property, she would jeopardise her chances of getting another council accomodation and that she would not be able to bid on anymore properties.

She now finds herself living out of boxes as she packed her things ready to move, has nowhere to go and is living in anxiety not only unaware of where she is going, but also if she will be forced to move into a property full of damp and mould.

“I need to remain in Romford as my mother is my carer and I need to be close to her, all this has had a huge detrimental impact on my mental health. Myself and my family are not only living in fear, but anxiety not knowing where we are going.”

Councillor Viddy Persaud local ward councillor for the area, is working with Rebecca to help her find a new property.

“It has been a complete nightmare for me, everything has been difficult and I don’t know where my family and I are now going,” finished Rebecca.
