A Fake parking attendant has scammed elderly residents out of money as they parked their vehicles in an Elm Park car park. The incident happened on Wednesday lunchtime, as the male dressed as a parking attendant began speaking to residents at Elm Park library car park.

The fake attendant told those parking their cars that the machine wasn’t working and that they hand their money over to him instead.

One resident contacted local ward Councillor Julie Wilkes who urged him to call the police straight away.

Councillor Wilkes attended the car park herself to see if she could spot the fake attendant, but it is believed he had moved on.

Councillor Barry Mugglestone Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Parking told the Havering Daily: “We are urging residents to not hand over any money to a parking attendant asking for money. Our enforcement officers do not take any money from people.

“Please continue to keep paying through the correct channels.

“This is an incident that has been reported to the police and we are working closely with them to see if we can identify who this man was.”

He finished by stressing: “Please do not hand any money over to anyone claiming to be a parking attendant asking for money. Our wardens do not take money.”
