A protest was held outside a shop in Upminster on Saturday 1 April by residents angry that the owners of the shop left their dog locked in a cupboard whilst they went on holiday.

Locals gathered outside Kayla Nails on St Mary’s Lane, to voice their disgust at the shop owners who closed the shop and left their dog Gigi locked in a cupboard inside the shop. It was thanks to nearby shop workers who heard the poor dog in distress and contacted the police and RSPCA who came and removed the dog. Fortunately the dog is now safe.

Imagines of historic animal abuse have also been found relating to the shop owners.

The peaceful protest was held just after 11 am, locals held banners asking for ‘Justice For Gigi’ the dog locked in the cupboard. Placards were waved at the owners of the shop who called the police. Cars driving by the protest also voiced their support beeping horns, alongside passer bys who also praised the protesters for calling out animal abuse.

The Havering Daily reporter asked the shop owner why she had chosen to go on holiday and leave her dog in a cupboard, she responded by saying she was calling the police and closing the door.

One local protester told the Havering Daily: “There is no room for animal abuse in our community. our dogs our part of our family, not there to be abused. We hope they face jail time.”

The case is now in the hands of the RSPCA and the police.

Justice For Gigi.
