The Battle To Stop ULEZ Continues As Government Decline to Take Any Action Despite Public Anger.
Havering Residents Association today write in the Havering Daily in regards to their battle to stop the implementation of the ultra low emission zone across Havering.
The Havering Residents Association (H.R.A) recently reached out to the Prime Minister to express concerns about the potential negative effects of the Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) on the local community.
The response we received was not unexpected, the government has declined to take any action and has in-fact reinforced the Mayor’s authority to introduce ULEZ.
This development, is both bemusing and questionable as it seems that the concerns of Havering’s residents, businesses, and local council are being ignored by the Mayor. It appears that any legal challenges to the ULEZ may not succeed, and the government has indicated that they will not intervene in the matter.
It is unacceptable that the Mayor’s office has not taken the concerns of the Havering community seriously, and we will continue to advocate for a more responsive and responsible approach to environmental policy in the area.

The HRA said appealing to government was better than taking legal action against the Mayor, but the Minister won’t intervene claiming the ULEZ expansion is consistent with Government policies and so remains a decision for the Mayor! In other words, ULEZ is part of the Government’s harmful “Net-Zero” agenda.
The Minister’s claim can only be challenged with legal action, just as the Mayor’s decision can only be challenged with legal action. The HRA approach has exposed the Government’s position, but shows why legal action is needed to challenge ULEZ policy.
Hence why the HRA should have joined with other councils in seeking a JR of the Mayor’s decision as sharing costs reduces individual costs and because even a failed JR helps the political campaign against ULEZ.

“even a failed JR helps the political campaign against ULEZ”
Basically this is the Conservative position. They couldn’t care less about ULEZ what they want to do is try to rescue London from the disaster that is the national Conservative Government. Any distraction from Johnson will do and this week it’s ULEZ. It is shameless opportunism.
I think many conservatives, and everyone really, are opposed to ULEZ which is being promoted by the National, Labour and Conservative Uni-Party as part of their harmful “Net-Zero” new-austerity agenda, to allegedly save the planet, as opposed enrich their Globalist donors!
The dilemma for local conservative and labour councillors is how to oppose it without being expelled from their respective parties for going against national policies. The labour solution is not to oppose but call for a delay and the conservative approach is to oppose ULEZ but support declaring a “climate emergency”!!! Ha Ha.
Funny, because the non-existent “climate emergency” nonsense underpins the “Net-Zero” agenda and ULEZ!
Therefore it falls on HRA to decide what to do. I appreciate for HRA anything beyond pot-holes is unchartered waters, but if they want to make a difference, effectively opposing ULEZ and “Net-Zero” austerity with legal action is their chance to do so.
I dont like the term ‘climate emergency’ but strange you call it ‘non existent’. Some thing are more important than you being able to drive everywhere. Most vehicles dont even have to pay the ULEZ.
A contradictory comment because if you think a climate emergency exists, why object to the term “climate emergency”?
The climate has always changed, even before the invention of cars, so illogical to blame cars for changes in climate and a very strange concern as a changing climate aka the four seasons, is essential to life on earth.
You support ULEZ as “most vehicles don’t even have to pay the ULEZ”. Conversely ULEZ isn’t needed as most vehicles are ULEZ compliant.
