Rainham Foodbank Appeal Donations Needed.

Jon Cruddas MP, Margaret Mullane, Labour’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dagenham and Rainham and Beam Park ward Councillors Matt Stanton and Trevor Mckeever have joined in an appeal for donations of food and household necessities for the Rainham Foodbank.

The Rainham Foodbank based at Mick Fury House, Lowen Road, RM13 8HT, as well as providing food for on average 100 local families a week, also provides a wrap around service to support local struggling families with a Citizens Advice service on Mondays and Wednesdays, alongside counselling.  

Margaret Mullane told the Havering Daily: “The foodbank is essential for so many people in the local area who are desperately struggling to make ends meet week after week. For the Rainham Foodbank to be able to carry on its work, if you can please make donations particularly of tinned fish, meat and fruit, tea, long life milk and beans and other necessities such as toothpaste, shower gel and toilet paper.”

Labour Councillors Matt Stanton and Trevor Mckeever for the Beam Park Ward in which the Rainham Foodbank is based, added: “The donations can be made direct to Mick Fury House in Lowen Road or to the collection points at Tesco stores at Rainham and Airfields Way or Sainsburys in Hornchurch. As well as people being issued with vouchers to come and collect food on a free basis, on Fridays from 11am there is a ‘Fresh Food Friday’ session when people on a first come first served basis can come to the foodbank until the food runs out.”

Jon Cruddas, Labour MP added: “The work of the Rainham Foodbank in supporting so many local people who are facing such hardship is at the same time inspirational due to the dedication of the volunteers and the community coming together but also a damning indictment of years of economic policy failures that has brought this situation about.”
