CAMPAIGN: Help Save ROM Skateboard Park From Closure.

ROM skatepark is a heritage site that has been used by skateboarders and bike riders since 1977. Now, after facing a £24,000 electricity bill, the site is facing closure and the area being turned into another block of flats.

Hundreds attend the skate park on Upper Rainham Road, every week, from all ages. It is a popular venue with a lot of history that dates back to 1977 when it first opened.

The skate park hosts a swimming pool style dip of 12 foot that is the only one of its kind in the world.

It is run by volunteers and much loved by the many who use it each week. It is has also been listed a grade 2 venue after all the history it carries.

Run by volunteers such as Spencer, ROM is not only a cultural place for its community, but a much loved one that is very well used by the many who go there every week.

Yesterday, Wednesday 29 March, the Havering Daily paid a visit to the site and meet volunteers Spencer and BMX rider Henry.

It is a special place for skateboarders and bike riders and holds a lot of history. To have it shut down and turned into another block of flats, would be a huge loss to the borough that would not only lose part of its history, but also lose a focal part of the community.
