Havering Prepares Itself For Another Anti ULEZ Protest.
‘We are not Covid deniers and we are not Far Right groups, we are a large team of Havering residents who are fed up of not being heard.’
Havering Against ULEZ is a group of residents who are fighting the ULEZ expansion. This Wednesday 22 March, sees another protest taking place outside the Town Hall in Romford. Michelle from the action group spoke to the Havering Daily about why this protest is so important.
“There are so many residents across Havering who face horrendous life changing decisions because of ULEZ. My car is compliant, but I know so many whose car is not and are struggling. We set up this group to be the voice for those as they are not heard.
“Unfortunately the local authority gave authorisation to City Hall a long time ago to start this process and now, all the Havering Residents Association is doing, is asking Khan to delay it until 2026.”
Michelle is not against clear air and continues: “Of course we all want clean air and we want people to walk and cycle, but we have to acknowledge that there are many in our society that cannot do this.
“The elderly, the disabled, those who work in the building trade, how can they walk or cycle? This is a fight for the low income, the working poor who as always are those who suffer the most. Most of them do not qualify for the scrappage scheme and have now a grand total of just eight months to get a ULEZ compliant vehicle. How are they supposed to do that?
“This is why we are holding these protests to make our voices heard for those who do not have a voice.
After facing criticise by climate activists on social media who have called anti ULEZ protesters tin foil hat wearers, Michelle responds by saying.
“Of course we all want clean air, but we are in a cost of living crisis and there are many who do not know how to go forward now. Let us remember those on low income wages and the impact it will have on them. This is not giving them a way forward.”
Here is a quote from a Havering pensioner: “My car is not compliant, It is a low emission diesel that the government told us was better to buy. Now, I have no idea how I can afford a compliant car as a pensioner with disabilities. I can’t use public transport and I’m not classified on a daily pip payments to get any government help. I do not know what to do”.

Sadist Khan knows from his own independent report that the ULEZ expansion will make very little difference to air quality in Outer London, he also knows that it will be financially devastating to hundreds of thousands of Londoners, and hundreds of thousands more who live outside London, but he doesn’t care because of the money it will bring in, both from charges and penalties, and this is just the start, because the next phase is road charging, pay per mile for everyone. One unknown cost that no one seems to be counting is how many lives are being shortened by the Mayor’s action, there are so many people at their wits end, that the stress and anxiety must be taking its toll on people’s health; however someone who dies of a heart attack from the stress this has put them under, will just be recorded as that, and not more accurately as death by Khan or death by Mayor. I’ve heard one person on the radio say they are seriously considering ending their life over this as they see no point in going on,I have no doubt there will be others, any potential improvements in air quality small as they are likely to be must be measured against the financial, mental and physical toll it will have on so many hundreds of thousands of people. If Khan truly cared about air quality he would deal with the toxic air on the London underground, oh but sorry he can’t tax that can he. Khan must be stopped he is an out of control monster, London has less of a problem with toxic air than it has with its toxic mayor.
