‘We Are The Only Profession That Leads To All Professions’-Teachers Strike At Harold Wood Primary.
Chants of ‘Oh Rishi you’re so tight, you’re so tight you make us strike, hey Rishi!’ were heard outside of Harold Wood Primary School on Recreation Avenue yesterday.
Staff formed a picket line outside of the school gates that gained a lot of support for many staff members as well as locals who rightfully agreed that our teachers deserve fair pay.
Deputy Head Teacher Siobhan Hopkins from the National Education Union, was joined on the picket line with members of her staff. She told the Havering Daily: “Our teachers deserve better pay. In real terms our money is way below inflation. There was a pay rise at the start of the year, but that wasn’t a funded pay rise and had to come out of school budgets. That has a big impact then on what we can provide for our children at school.
“Recruitment is low, one in three teachers leave and the government has failed to meet their targets for the year.
“We need to start standing up and making our voices heard, if not we will not have teachers in our schools anymore.”
Teachers and support staff work very long hours and do a vital role in our community. Their job is a necessity and should be paid correctly.
