Romford MP Calls for Return of Kept Animals Bill to House of Commons.
Andrew Rosindell M.P. has issued a letter to Penny Mordaunt M.P., leader of the House, to ensure that the bill is passed before the end of the current parliamentary session.
The bill, which seeks to end puppy imports, the fattening and slaughter process and the ownership of primates as domesticated pets, has been stagnant since September 2022.
In the letter, Mr. Rosindell, who has been the Member of Parliament for Romford since 2001, outlined the comments of George Eustice M.P., the architect of the bill, who ‘estimated that it will only take 5 hours of parliamentary time to complete its passage, seeing as it has already reached its report stage’.
With 75% of citizens believing that more needs to be done to improve animal welfare, the M.P. for Romford firmly highlighted that the bill will help bring in ‘a landmark era for animal welfare’ thereby appeasing the majority of British citizens.
‘I ask that you do all you can to return this bill as soon as possible to the House of Commons, in order that it does not go un-noticed and become dropped at the end of this session,’ Mr. Rosindell wrote. ‘It is a vital piece of legislation which will improve the lives of animals all over the U.K.’
This is not the first time the M.P. for Romford has attempted to pass a legislative bill regarding animal welfare in the Westminster.
Late last year, the Animals (Penalty Notices) Act of 2022 was approved, allowing the provision of penalty notices for certain offences in relation to animal and animal products.
