Animal welfare concerns following dog breeding in small Rainham yard.
A Rainham man has voiced his concerns and anger at his neighbours who are breeding dogs in a small yard on Cowper Road in Rainham. Paul has contacted his local councillors after two years of seeing the many dogs being held in a small space and also now putting up with very strong smells that stop him and his family accessing their own yard.
Paul told The Havering Daily:
“They are breeding Shar pei dogs in a very small space. We don’t have gardens here, we have yards and these dogs are outside all the time.
“Not only are we concerned about the poor animals left out there, but after two years of them being there the smell is awful and as a result, we can’t sit outside.
“We have seen the adverts they place locally where they are selling the dogs for £1,200 so we know that this is what they are doing. However, it is not right to leave four adult dogs in such a small space. It is also not right for neighbours who have to put up with the smell.
The dogs have never been walked, they are just left outside in the small confined space.”
Angry that he and his family can not use their own backyard, Paul reached out to Councillor Sarah Edwards, Rainham ward Councillor.
She told the Havering Daily:
“I have been round to visit Paul and the smell and barking noises are terrible. They have a small metal cage where they keep all these dogs both adult and their litters.
“Since last summer they have had three litters each in such a confined space where they stay all day, eating sleeping and toilet facilities. They don’t get any exercise and are kept in this same area all their lives.
“This is animal cruelty and I am working to help Paul resolve this terrible situation.”
Paul finished: “We cannot access our own backyard anymore as the smell is so bad. In the summer we can’t have family round due to the smell. This is all wrong.”
The small area the four dogs and their litters are kept in.
