My constituents are fed with being a source of revenue for inner London whilst receiving little in return for this’.

Andrew Rosindell M.P. has written a letter to the Prime Minister urging greater borough power to reject the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (U.L.E.Z.) expansion proposed by London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

The ULEZ charge, which is set to extend to the outer areas of ‘Greater London’, has caused great concern amongst Mr. Rosindell’s constituents, who believe it will disproportionately impact those who rely on vehicles, including small businesses struggling with current economic pressures.

Mr. Rosindell has proposed that boroughs in London be granted greater authority to reject the Mayor’s proposals and reassume responsibility for air quality. Lord Moylan has already proposed an amendment to the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill that would “enable councils in London to express their opposition to the Mayor’s plan”. Mr. Rosindell has requested the Prime Minister’s backing for this amendment.

If this measure is not taken, Mr. Rosindell feels that the only clear option for the London Borough of Havering, and other outer areas of ‘Greater London’, will be to return to being a unitary authority. He believes that a “Conservative government should use its powers to make changes that restore powers back to the local level, giving power back to local people in areas like Havering.”

In his letter to the Prime Minister, Mr. Rosindell has emphasised the need for a new strategy for the reform of London government that “suits the interests of boroughs like Havering, which remain part of the traditional County of Essex and do not feel happy with the current structure of regional government that has been imposed on them. The U.L.E.Z. expansion proposal has brought this issue to the fore like never before.”

Andrew Rosindell MP said: “I am deeply concerned about the impact of the U.L.E.Z. expansion on my constituents, particularly small businesses who are already grappling with the cost-of-living crisis. We need a new strategy for the reform of ‘London’ government that restores powers back to the local level, giving local people the power to act in their own interests. I urge the Prime Minister to support the amendment proposed by Lord Moylan, which would give boroughs greater authority to reject the Mayor’s proposals and reassume responsibility for air quality.”

Mr. Rosindell looks forward to hearing from the Prime Minister soon and hopes that his constituents’ concerns will be taken into consideration.

As a London Borough, Havering is not in Essex in any way shape or form.

What a lot of fuss about nothing. Anti ULEZ protests and campaigning have cost the tax payer millions of pounds and the local economy hindered. Changes to vehicle technology and the government scrappage scheme will mean that the ULEZ standard will be met by all vehicles in the future anyway. Can’t Andrew Rosindell MP find something positive to do instead of constant moaning ?

I take it that you either already have a compliant vehicle or meet the qualifying criteria for the scrappage scheme. In my case I don’t in either points. So I do not consider this “a lot of fuss about nothing”.
I can’t afford to replace my perfect working, excellent condition, non-compliant diesel vehicle that I purchased on the advice of the Government, when they were pushing us to buy diesel cars and promoting them as the cleaner way of driving.
