The HRA issue a statement on yesterday’s multiple stabbing in Romford.

The Havering Residents Association were shocked to hear of yet another stabbing incident last night in Romford which should not be accepted as a sign of the times.

The carrying and arming with knives needs parental control, education, community engagement and police oversight.

The Council works with all agencies through the Community Safety Partnership, which covers Havering. H.R.A Councillors have been out on weapon and drug sweeps,  knife arch spot checks, police night shifts and work closely with Safer Neighbourhood teams.

Schools and colleges have systems and training in place. But more needs to be done by all agencies. When young people travel in from other boroughs, we need to be working with the home borough to tackle the risks and dangers knives bring to life.

The police now need time to complete their investigations. If you know anything about the incidents please report through to the police.

We need to work together to stop young people ruining or ending their lives through knife crime.

The answer to reducing violent crime is employment, and in a climate crisis there is a huge amount of work to be done to protect communities from extreme events. BUT nothing happens because the very wealthy want tax and public spending cut to the bone. We need a return to the “roll up your sleeves” employment programmes after the 1945 election.
