Firefighters have rescued a man from a burning flat in Chadwell Heath who was then taken to hospital.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled the fire at a flat on Gregory Road overnight on Tuesday.

Part of a ground floor flat was damaged by the fire. The man was rescued from the flat by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. He was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

A woman left the flat before firefighters arrived. She was treated at the scene by ambulance crews.

The Brigade was called at 03:58 and the fire was under control by 05:19. Crews from Dagenham, Romford and Hainault fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
