Boxing gold medal winning police officer who dedicates her time volunteering in the community.
PC Sharon Christiansen is not only an outstanding police officer working in the East Area Violence Suppression Unit, but is also a gold medal winning boxer who now dedicates her time to volunteering at Dagenham Boxing Club where she helps her community.
Sharon has worked in the Violence Suppression Unit for two years now, and loves her job.
“I love my job, I love meeting new people and having the opportunity to help them. I was a PCSO for ten years and then decided to join myself as I wanted the opportunity to see jobs through. I have always been a very proactive person and doing this role I can really make a difference.”
Sharon works long hours and strives to always put her community first. But policing can be a very challenging job at times.
“I think the hardest part for me is being able to switch off at the end of the day. Sometimes we deal with very difficult situations and being a mum, I worry just how safe it is for my children.”
When Sharon is not out and about keeping the community safe, she is volunteering at Dagenham Boxing Club where she is a fully qualified coach.
“They trained me at the club and now I enjoy giving back to the community.”
Sharon is a gold medal winning boxer who has represented the Met Police many times.
“I won the gold medal at the World Police and Fire Games, which is the emergency services Olympics. I entered the 57kg category in 2012 and won gold and then won silver in 2015.
“Now, I enjoy giving back to the community and the club after they took care of me.
“I love working there and helping others. It really is important that we show the community we are the same as them without our uniform.
It has helped break down many barriers and now people that before wouldn’t approach a police officer before, are happy to come forward and talk to me.”
Sharon has been helping groups of ladies teaching them non contact boxing and general fitness to help encourage well being. Her regular groups at Dagenham Boxing Club have helped tackle violence against women women and girls. They are amazing groups that have given a lot of local ladies self confidence and the ability to make new friends, as well as learn important skills.
Sharon is an amazing police officer and a great community role model who has helped many across east area not only learn boxing skills but also gain more self confidence.
Well done Sharon!
Sharon with her medals!
