The Mardyke Community Centre in Beam Park has become a warm space for residents looking for a centre to meet others, stay warm and take part in some fun activities.

The centre on South Street in Rainham will be open on Tuesday from 8.30am until 2.30pm for people to pop along, join in games such as puzzles, arts and crafts, knitting and have the opportunity to have a chat with other locals in a warm space.

The popular centre has opened its doors to help its community who are struggling with the cost of living crisis.

Beam Park ward Councillor Trevor McKeever told the Havering Daily:

“With the ever-deepening cost of living crisis and fuel poverty on the increase, I welcome the announcement that the Mardyke community centre is to be used as a warm space in Beam Park.

“Warm Spaces are heated, safe and friendly places and are free to use for anyone struggling to heat their home.

“The Mardyke Community Centre alongside voluntary, community and local organisations have come together to provide not only a warm space but the opportunity to take part in other activities such as IT, Clarion Futures will be on site at the Mardyke Community Centre  between 10.00am – 12.00 Noon to teach basic computer skills, how to do online shopping, to how to borrow lap tops and get free sim cards.

“But most of all it’s a great location to come and keep warm, have a free tea, coffee and snacks, and meet other residents.”

The Mardyke Community centre will be open on Tuesdays from 08.30am – 2.30pm.
