Five council coalition launch judicial review against Sadiq Khan’s ULEZ expansion.
On Wednesday 15 February the Mayor of London and TfL received a pre action letter before a judicial review claim.
Five councils have joined forces as a coalition to launch a judicial review against the Mayor of London’s plans to expand the ultra low emission zone across all outer London Boroughs.
Surrey County Council has joined forces with Bromley,Bexley,Harrow and Hillingdon to bring forward this legal action.
Havering has refused to sign the latest section 8 deadline agreement allowing the installation of cameras across the borough in preparation for the expansion in August.
The local councils, Havering included and local MP’s have openly voiced their serious concerns about this expansion and how it will impact those already struggling with the cost of living crisis.
Here in Havering residents have written to the Havering Daily, informing us of how they will lose their business, their jobs, be unable to keep medical appointments, visit family, take disabled children to day centres and be faced with getting into further debt to buy a ULEZ compliant vehicle.
Tom from Rainham told the Havering Daily: “We want clean air for our children too, but we do not know what we are going to do now as we can not afford a new vehicle and the public transport system here in Rainham is not as good as in other places.
“Of course we are not against clean air. The issue is we do not know how to afford a car that is compliant. We are just about getting by now and this scheme will mean the end of my business.”
