‘The Tories have crashed our economy leaving thousands of people struggling to put food on the table and heat their homes. ULEZ is another unwelcome hit on working people’-Jon Cruddas MP.
Dagenham and Rainham MP Jon Cruddas is one of four Labour MPs calling on the London Mayor to reverse his plans to expand the ultra low emission zone across all outer London Boroughs this August.
The four MPs calling on Khan to rethink his enforcement of this scheme are Jon Cruddas, Abena Oppong-Asare,Siobhain McDonagh and Seema Malhotra.
ULEZ is a very emotive topic for so many here in Havering and the list of growing concerns are endless across all outer London boroughs.
Mr Cruddas has openly voiced his concerns for months over the introduction of this scheme in the summer.
He told the Havering Daily:
“I understand the pressing need to improve air quality and public health, but this scheme will be another unwelcome hit on working people in areas like Dagenham and Rainham. The Tories have crashed our economy leaving thousands of people struggling to put food on the table and heat their homes, and against this backdrop those same people will now struggle to get to work.”
Rainham does not have the travel infrastructure that inner London boroughs have and many there are low income workers.
Jon added:
“This should have been delayed until we were on the other side of the cost-of-living crisis, which is now biting. Dagenham and Rainham is home to many low-income workers who rely on their personal vehicles. The public transport infrastructure just isn’t there to support this policy. I will continue to challenge this in the strongest possible terms over the coming weeks and months.”
