‘Social media is destroying our youths lives’-mum slams photoshop for creating fakes.
A Hornchurch mum has slammed the use of social media for portraying photos that are ‘fake’. The mum who has a 15 year old daughter is angry at how celebrities use photoshop to create an image that is not real.
“I watch my daughter look at all these social media posts on instragram or snapchat of models and singers and desperately aim to be like them. Their image has clearly been altered to make them look like that. I keep trying to let her see the reality and show her that they don’t really look like that.
“Social media puts so much pressure on our youths in endless ways that it actually scares me. I see my daughter have to keep up with the latest fashion trend to be part of her crowd. They all feel the need to have the same. They wear the same clothes, shoes, bags. There is no individuality anymore.
“The groups of girls out and about are all wearing the same style clothes now, no one stands out. They are all copies of each other. My daughter wants to feel part of the group so also wears the same. The pressure that is put on them is really quite unbelievable.”
It was this week that model Kendall Jenner came under fire by fans to say she had photoshopped a picture of herself wearing a string bikini. The model has 276 million followers and was criticised by fans for having altered her pictures.
The mum added, “She looks very different now compared earlier photos. They actually seem two different people. I know they all deny any form of cosmetic surgery but look at how different she seems. What they do not realise is that they are adding huge pressure to our youth to make themselves follow something that is not real.
“They create so much pressure on weight issues, clothing, hair and make up. The list for mums is long and heartbreaking. I see my daughter try and alter so many things to be like others and it isn’t right. She is beautiful as she is.
“These posts make me sad and angry that people feel the need to have to change themselves to conform. Why don’t they put a picture up of how they really are? People would much rather see the reality that these photos of them with everything perfect and I mean perfect like a doll. It’s all wrong.
“Our youth are ruining their lives growing up under all the pressures following fakes. I urge them to be themselves. We are all different and should value are individuality. Social media is destroying this.
