Trial begins following death of much loved pensioner who died after firework was thrown through her letter box.
On Thursday 28 October 2021 Mrs Josephine Smith, known locally as Josie, sadly died in a house fire in Harold Wood. Mrs Smith had been asleep when the fire broke out and despite the best efforts of our firefighters, the 88 year old was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The community were shocked and devastated at Josie’s death and a special vigil and tree planting event were held in memory of the Harold Wood pensioner.
Today, Thursday 9 February, the trial begins at the Old Bailey where a teenager is charged with Manslaughter, arson and affray following her death.
Members of the Harold Wood community are attending the trial to support Mrs Smith’s family.
