On Tuesday, 24th January Julia Lopez, Minister of State for Media, Data and Digital Infrastructure met Graeme Oxby, Chief Executive Officer of Community Fibre, at Marsworth House, Whiston Estate, Hackney to observe how London’s largest₁ and fastest₂ 100% full fibre broadband provider carries out its fibre installation across residential properties.

During the visit, the Minister observed how Community Fibre’s engineers install its 100% full fibre network, which was demonstrated by its abseiling team, followed by a showcase of groundwork installation which is currently being carried out across the Hackney borough.

The Minister and Graeme Oxby then discussed how Community Fibre’s network build is providing Londoner’s with the capital’s largest and fastest fibre broadband at the best value on the market.

Unlike most providers, Community Fibre builds, operates and owns its dedicated 100% full fibre network with the most advanced technology available. Therefore, it does not rely on BT Openreach’s or any other provider’s cables to deliver fast and reliable 100% full fibre broadband directly into individual properties.

The site visit follows Community Fibre’s announcement that it is on track to double its network target in London and will pass 2.2 million homes and businesses by the end of 2024.

Commenting on the site visit, Julia Lopez, Minister of State for Media, Data, and Digital Infrastructure said: “Community Fibre is a fine example of how British telecoms companies are connecting millions of people and businesses to better broadband and boosting London’s economy and productivity.

“Thanks to this government’s efforts to make it as easy as possible for firms to build networks in the UK, Community Fibre is one of more than 80 providers investing almost £35 billion to deliver next-generation gigabit-capable broadband across the UK.”

Graeme Oxby, Chief Executive Officer of Community Fibre added: “We’re delighted to be joined by Julia Lopez at one of our local housing installations, to be able to showcase how Community Fibre provides Londoners with the fastest, most reliable 100% full fibre broadband.

We will continue to work closely with our council landlords to deliver free internet connections to local community centres, as well as working with our team of digital ambassadors to provide digital skills training within the communities we serve.”

For Londoners who may be feeling the pinch because of the cost-of-living crisis, Community Fibre’s Essential 20 Mbps package is now available to all new customers, with no requirement that they provide proof of being on income support or other state benefits. Community Fibre is currently the only broadband provider which does not ask its customers to jump through hoops and prove their eligibility to get the best value with a social tariff package.
