‘The installation of a phone mast on the roof of Vickers House is an outright failure to protect public health and the local environment’.

Romford residents launch petition in a bid to stop the installation of a phone mast on the roof of Vickers House.

Residents living in Vickers House in Romford have launched a petition to stop a mobile phone mast being installed on the roof of their building. The locals feel that the mast would be a public health failure and a failure for the local environment.

The mast is being moved from its current location which is on top of the YMCA building, to the top of VIckers House at Roneo Corner.

A Vickers House resident told the Havering Daily:

“We, the residents at Vickers House wish to strongly object to the proposed plan to erect mobile telecommunications equipment and ancillary support cabinets on site, and any prior approval and/or Planning Application due to the adverse impact on the residents and it’s local community.

“The applicant (Waldon Telecom) on behalf of their clients (EE and Hutchinson 3G Limited) states that they wish to use this site for the proposed base and mast because,  “the current location at Rush Green YMCA, 29 Rush Green Road, Romford, RM7 OPH is being lost”. As there have been no proper public/community consultations about this proposal, we would like all Vickers House residents’ objections based on siting, appearance, environmental impact, health (it is difficult to comprehend why anyone would want to subject us to more challenging times,  after over 2 years of remediation works and its severe and negative impact on our already fragile wellbeing and continued infrastructure issues) plus highways (construction traffic).  

“We are therefore, asking that EE be required to provide another solution that does not have an adverse effect on us and the community.  We seek Havering Council’s support and request that this prior approval and/or the planning application are refused.”

Romford Civic Society are keen to support Vickers House residents and are hoping that Romford residents will join in and support this petition.
