“Sadly I wasn’t shocked to see this symbol spray painted on our footbridge, it was more disturbing,”says Lydie a local Elm Park resident. Lydie had walked on the footbridge in Elm Park, only to discover the word Nazi and symbols to go with it had been graffited on the side wall.

“It appears to be drawn by teenagers as it has not been drawn properly, but it is disturbing to see that children would draw images such as these.

“We need people to be properly educated. People to understand and be informed on their history. We should not take events such as these lightly, they mask a bigger problem.”

Lydie is a member of our Jewish community and hopes that non Jewish people would come forward to report shocking images such as these.

“We need all communities to work together and support each other. I hope that non Jewish people would also report images like these if they see them.

“We do need to speak out about this, it is a big part of our history and everyone needs to be educated on it. Schools need to be actively teaching pupils about these symbols and their meanings.

“It really is a symptom of a larger issue sadly,”finishes Lydie.

Let’s stand together as a community and speak out against events like these. It is a part of our history that must never be repeated.

Havering Council were very quick to send a team out to remove this shocking graffiti and have also reported it to the police and TfL. Lydie had reported it via twitter and the council acted immediately to have it removed.

Please note, we will not be displaying this graffiti due to its disturbing nature.
