Christmas Tree recycling service raises more than £25,000 for hospice care.
Kind residents started the New Year by making a donation to have their Christmas tree recycled and helping to raise over £25,300 for patient care at Saint Francis Hospice
The Hospice’s fundraising team and volunteers collected an incredible 1,588 Christmas trees from homes across Havering and Brentwood over four days (6-9 January).
“The campaign was so much fun and it really highlighted how our community and volunteers have a special place in their heart for our hospice,” said fundraiser Charlotte Winder who led the campaign.
“Thank you to everyone who supported this year’s Christmas Tree Recycling campaign and helped to raise more than £25,300 – with Gift Aid we expect this to bring us up to our £30,000 target!
“I am so grateful for everyone who has helped, whether that’s taking to the streets and putting posters in shops, donating goods and vans to actually going out there getting the trees!
“We simply couldn’t raise this amount of money without our hospice heroes. Our patients and families will get the care and support they need because of these people.”
There was a huge amount of work involved in making sure everything was in place for the collection service but thanks to the fantastic efforts of the local community, it was a huge success.
“Our volunteers worked tirelessly From Friday 6th January to Monday9th January to ensure everyone who had registered had their tree picked up as promised – And we did it,” said Charlotte.
“This year we had five drop off points for the Christmas trees – CalcottHall Farm in Brentwood, Sharps Skips in Rainham, Romford Dogs in Romford, The Harrow pub in Hornchurch and Saint Francis Hospice.
“This enabled our volunteers to have less travelling time between collections and our fabulous volunteer chippers met them at these locations to chip the trees. Our routes were very kindly donated free of charge by the logistics company 121 Systems. This saved a huge amount of money and time for the hospice and made our collections seamless.”
