Samaritans hold ‘Brew Monday’ at Romford station to support local community.
Havering Samaritans were out in full force yesterday, Monday 16 January at Romford station hosting a ‘Brew Monday’ event. The team were joined by British Transport Police, Met Police officers from Romford Town Centre, members of the Elizabeth Line and the Rail Pastors.
The event was aimed busting the Blue Monday myth and replacing it with Brew Monday. The suicide prevention charity is keen to dispel the idea that the third Monday of January is particularly difficult, as its listening volunteers are consistently busy everyday of the year.
To help raise awareness of Brew Monday volunteers and rail staff handed out tea bags and chatted to passengers about the power of connecting over a cuppa and a catch up.
Havering Samaritans Branch Director, said: “It’s simple, there is no such thing as Blue Monday. People can feel low at any point in the day, week or year and we want them to know that they are never alone.
“Forget Blue Monday and instead check in with people who you care about for a cuppa and a chat as talking really can save lives. Our volunteers are available around the clock to listen to anyone who needs support this Brew Monday and every other day of the month and year, 24/7.”
Officers, rail staff, rail pastors and St Albans ward Councillor Jane Keane chatted with passengers as they entered Romford station.
Also present was founder of PTSD 999 charity Gary Haynes who was on hand to support officers. The charity provides vital mental health support for our emergency service workers
This was a fantastic community event, where volunteers were able to chat with the passengers and offer their much needed support.
The Samaritans do amazing work day and night in our community and their service is invaluable.
