Yesterday across Romford, shoppers took to the streets at the crack of dawn to queue outside of Aldi on the A12 and Aldi in Collier Row to buy the latest craze-Prime Hydration energy drink. As the stores opened their doors, eager shoppers rushed in to grab their drinks and by just after 8am, Aldi had sold out.

The supermarket chain had put a message out clearly stating that shoppers were only allowed to purchase one drink of each flavour as they knew the request for this drink was going to be extremely high. But why is the question? What is it about this drink that is made up of water, 10% coconut water and flavourings, that is causing this stir?

The Havering Daily spoke to 17 year old Alfie Holland from Romford to find out just why Prime Hydration is causing all this frenzy.

“This drink has been bought together by two You Tube stars Logan Paul and KSI. It was released first in America and then came here to the UK where it was first released in Asda in Watford and Asda in Leyton. It is famous because of the two You Tubers.”

For those of you unaware of who they are, Logan Paul is an American professional wrestler and media personality believed to be worth billions. KSI is an English singer, born Olajide Olayinka Olatunji and is a member of the British You Tube group known as the Sidemen. They have combined forces to bring Prime Hydration energy drink to the world.

“Yesterday we got to Asda fifteen minutes before it opened and queued with everyone else there. It is mental really. It was sold out within minutes and it won’t be re-stocked, it really is just a one time buy.

“They have a variety of different favours, you can get blue raspberry, tropical punch, grape, orange, lemon and lime, ice pop and metamoon-which is a unknown flavour.

“They are generally nice drinks but people really are going crazy for them. There is one shop in Hornchurch that is selling them for £15 and on ebay they are selling for £300-400!

“Before the Christmas holidays, kids were queuing up outside of shops in their school uniforms at 6am to get one of these drinks and jumping over barriers, that’s how crazy it has been!”.

We asked Alfie, despite all the frenzy and hype, is this drink worth it? “Yeah it is a nice drink.”
