Stamping out violence against women and girls is something the Met Police has really dedicated its time on. The force has run endless initiatives to tackle this important topic right across the capital, in particular in east area. It is here across Havering, Barking and Dagenham and Redbridge, that the first dedicated Violence Against Women and Girls Officer has been put into place.

Yesterday, Thursday December 8, a community led innovation hub was set up to discuss issues related to violence against women and girls was launched at Redbridge Central Library. The event was run by Superintendent Lisa Butterfield, Chief Inspector Louise Jackson and Inspector Feathers. It was a one day event that saw many members of the three east London communities come together to share ideas, concerns and other issues they may have in regards to violence against women.

East Area have worked extremely hard on this important issue, running daily ‘walk and talks’ across the three boroughs, holding many events across east London giving the local community the opportunity to share their worries with officers.

The ‘walk and talks’ have been very popular with many women coming out to join in to highlight areas where they do not feel safe and share what they feel police can do to help them.

Yesterday’s event was very informative and other great step forward to stamping out violence against women.
