The Christmas spirit was out in full force at the Mardyke Community centre in Beam Park yesterday, Thursday 1st December.

Many elderly residents from across the area were invited to the annual M.Y.C.A Senior Citizens Christmas lunch to join in some festive fun and have the chance to meet others. Guests got to enjoy a 3 course Christmas meal and were treated to some Christmas carols by pupils from Newtons Primary School as well as a speech from the Mayor.

Centre staff, local councillors, volunteers and local businesses all came together to make the day as special as possible for our elderly residents. All the food and drink served was donated by local businesses.

Centre manager, Lesley Blowers told the Havering Daily: “It is always a pleasure to host the Christmas lunch here at the centre for our community. I would just like to say thank you to Tropical Sun (Wanis), Hawkins & Sons Butchers, the MYCA Fund Raising Committee, Rainham Tesco, the Mayor of Havering, Appletons & Sons, Newtons Primary School, local community volunteers and donors, and of course the amazing centre staff, who all contributed to making the day a success.”

Well done to everyone involved.
