Trees for Havering bringing the community together to make it a greener Havering
On Saturday 26th of November, Trees for Havering hosted its first tree planting event of the season at the Hornchurch Country Park COVID Memorial. The tree planting campaign has returned after last season’s success where over 6000 new trees were planted in Havering. The event saw a variety of groups from across Havering and even other boroughs, come together to support the campaign.
The event aligned with National Tree Week and volunteers were able to plant around 1000 new trees. The aim of the campaign is to plant as many trees as possible across the borough and make it not only greener but also to improve the quality of air.
This season the council have provided Trees for Havering with a number of large locations to create new woodland so it is important as many people get involved and help to plant trees. There will be many events scheduled over the next 5 months so please attend at least one event if you can.
Event organiser Adam Ozbek told the Havering Daily,
“Firstly I would like to say thank you to everyone who attended the event. It is always great to meet other people who share our passion for planting trees. The first event was a great success and I am sure as the season goes on, just like last season, we will see an increase in the number of volunteers attending. There were 25 volunteers at this event and everyone who attended said they had a great time and will be back to help at future events.
‘Tree planting is not only great for the environment but also for your well-being and the campaign provides the community with the opportunity to do their part to help the environment.
‘I would also like to thank The Woodland Trust and The Conservation Volunteers for donating the trees.”
The next two events will be back at the same location. Please get involved in future events if you can.
