Remembering Ricky-Mum donates bleed kit in honour of murdered son.
Six years ago today, much loved local man Ricky Hayden was laid to rest after losing his life to knife crime. Ricky had gone out to prevent thieves from stealing his brother’s moped outside their home in Romford in 2016, when he was stabbed. His family will never recover from his death and everyday they live with the memory of Ricky in their broken hearts.
Now, Sue Hedges, Ricky’s mum and April Hayden Ricky’s sister, have dedicated their lives to campaigning against knife crime and donating life saving bleed kits to as many venues as they can.
The family run the Ricky Hayden Memorial where they collect donations to then by able to purchase Daniel Baird bleed bags and units to hand out across the community. These bags and units are all London Ambulance Service approved and could save a life. They stop catastrophic bleeding after knife or gun shot wounds or road traffic collisions.
On Friday last week, Sue and April donated a bleed kit to Youth and Community Connexions in Market Square Edmonton.
Sue told the Havering Daily: “Thank you to the team at Youth and Community Connexions for accepting a Daniel Baird bleed bag. These are so important in our community and could save a life.
“We see so many stabbings across the streets of London on a daily basis and having a bleed bag in your shop or venue, could save a person’s life.
“it is six years ago today that we laid Ricky to rest. A day that myself and my family will never recover from. Our hearts were shattered that day, but now in memory of Ricky we hope to save as many lives as we can by donating these bleed bags.”
