Students stand united in silence for Remembrance Day Parade.

Students studying the Uniformed Public Services course at New City College Havering Sixth Form led a Remembrance Day Parade to honour British and Commonwealth service members who have died in wars and other conflicts since the onset of the First World War.

Hundreds of students and staff at the sixth form campus in Wingletye Lane, Hornchurch gathered to watch the parade and observe a two-minute silence at 11am on Friday 11th November, while others fell silent in their classes.

The Quad area of the college was decorated with Poppy wreaths and flags and a student played The Last Post on his trumpet as the Parade stood to attention.

Deputy Principal Phil Hall read out the Royal British Legion Remembrance Poem for 2022, which asks the nation to pause, breathe and reflect on the service and sacrifices the Armed Forces make on our behalf. It starts: “In real life. We can’t rewind. We can’t fast forward. But we can Pause. Breathe. Reflect.”

He went on to pay tribute to those who had served and are serving in order to defend our democratic freedoms and way of life, ending with We Will Remember Them.
