Hundreds attend Remembrance Day Services held across the borough.
Numerous Remembrance Day Services were held yesterday, Sunday 13 November across Havering. It was a day where the country remembered all our fallen heroes and all those who served to protect our country and those that still do.
A large parade took place in Romford that ended at the Town Hall where a service followed shortly after at Coronation Gardens.
The special service was held by Major Mike Stannett, Leader at the Romford Salavation Army and included special prayers by all community Faith leaders such a Rabbi Lee Sunderland from the Romford Synagogue and Tariq Mahmood from Havering Islamic Cultural Centre.
Havering’s Mayor Councillor Trevor McKeever began the wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial joined by Romford MP Andrew Rosindell, Leader of the Council, Councillor Ray Morgon and East Area BCU Commander Chief Superintendent Stuart Bell.
A parade took place in Hornchurch that ended at St Andrew’s church where a special ceremony also took place. Hornchurch and Upminster MP Julia Lopez joined local pupils from the Royal Liberty School laying wreaths alongside local councillors. Chief Inspector Louise Jackson and Havering Police cadets also laid wreaths at the War Memorial.
In Elm Park Deputy Mayor Councillor Stephanie Nunn and Consort Councillor Barry Mugglestone also took part in the special services and laid their wreaths supporting veterans at the Royal British Legion.
In Rainham, Councillor Graham Williamson, Sue Ospreay, Natasha Summers, Jackie McArdle and Sarah Edwards all laid wreaths at the War Memorial after joining in the parade.
In Harold Hill a service took place at the War Memorial and a procession led by a bagpiper from St George’s church in Chippenham Road. The service was led by recently appointed Vicar at St George’s church Reverend Nathan Joss-Pothen. A speech was made by former Mayor Denis O Flynn. Councillor Keith Darvill led the wreath laying process.
Many prayers were said yesterday to remember all our fallen heroes and pay tribute to all those who paid the ultimate sacifice.
