We can all acknowledge that policing is one of the most challenging roles in our society. The work our officers do everyday is life saving, vital and often dangerous as they tackle armed assailants with knives, machetes, axes, swords and guns. As a matter of fact the work they do is so traumatic, that one in five officers now suffers with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

British Transport Police Officers have a difficult job that is often heartbreakingly gruesome. When a person sadly chooses to end their life, it is these officers who must deal with the very tragic circumstances. It is these officers who must deal with horrendous accidents that have occurred, it is these officers who tackle very complex situations that have taken place either on trains or on stations and it is these officers that come to the assistance of other forces when they are short, which is daily, of officers.

The senior police officer who was not named in the Telegraph article, states that officers should not be taking selfies with celebrities that pass through different stations. Surely, as a senior officer you have worked for many years in your field and know the incredible work these officers do everyday, so why not allow them five minutes to take a selfie with a celeb?

They are not ignoring crime to do this, they are not deliberately choosing to ignore a person in need to take a selfie, they are taking five minutes to have a quick picture with a well known person passing through the station. Is that really so wrong?

Surely as a senior police officer what you should be tackling is welfare amongst colleagues who are struggling with the horrors they face everyday on our streets?

If these officers were clearly ignoring crime or a person in need to take a selfie, then we would all whole heartedly agree with you, but five minutes if that to take a selfie when the job they do is so stressful is not worth shouting about.

We have seen a horrendous weekend of violence across London with multiple stabbings and double shootings. Police officers are in dire shortage right across the country. Instead of knocking fellow officers, stand united with them and call for a better welfare system that actually looks after officers who have given their all to the job and are now suffering mental health issues as a result.
