‘The Tory government can’t provide confidence and stability’-Andrew Achilleos.
Chair of Dagenham and Rainham Labour Party Andrew Achilleos today writes in the Havering Daily on the government and its current chaotic situation.
The Chancellor said that growth requires “confidence and stability” yet it’s clear that the Tory government can’t provide this. There will continue to be a huge cost to families as the economy spirals out of control because the Tories simply don’t have the capacity to govern effectively. Mortgage rates are ballooning and hopes of owning a home have been crushed for hundreds of thousands of people across the country.
Analysis by the Labour Party using Bank of England data showed that homeowners coming off two-year fixed term mortgages in October 2022 are set to pay £500 a month more on average after the government’s disastrous mini-Budget handed unfunded tax cuts to the wealthiest.
The Tory MPs in Havering and their government have crashed from crisis to crisis and working people are being made to pay the price. Despite a consistent string of U-turns following the disastrous so called ‘mini-budget’, the damage has been done: an estimated 11,104 people in Havering will be paying higher mortgage bills next year because of the irresponsible actions of this government.
Inflation has also hit double figures, leaving workers fighting tooth and nail just to protect their living standards, whilst corporations such as Royal Mail threaten them with redundancy for simply asking for the means to provide for their families.
Labour has a plan to restore financial responsibility, and we have pledged to deliver a new deal for working people. One thing is becoming abundantly clear, if families in places like Romford hope to get through the cost-of-living crisis, they need a Labour MP who is willing to work hard for the interests of local people.
