Met Police has many officers who actually do make a difference in our communities.
Not a day goes by that the policing organisations in some shape or form do not make the headlines. Very rarely is it for good reasons. Catastrophic failings were highlighted in the recent Baroness Casey report, that have now been written about in every possible way, by every possible person.
As we are not and have never been police officers, we will not comment on those failings, we will however comment on the police officers across London that we do work with daily. The Met has many challenges and its officers all accept that, it also has some amazing officers that everyday quietly go about their work in our community and are repeatedly under valued due to the actions of those that have bought their force into disrepute. But, individual misconduct is not a culture for all officers and so many officers do such vital work in our community each day.
The Casey report has meant that the actions of those shameful officers has once again made an impact on those who joined to actually make a difference and adhere to their decent values working to the best of their ability hand in hand with community members.
Frontline officers, Response teams, Safer Neighbourhood Officers, their Sergeants and Inspectors out on our streets dealing with the public, on a whole do an amazing job. They are the ones who always face the most challenges from the public and take the brunt every time another report is issued. Yet, they are the ones who come running when the community dial 999, they are the ones who have poor working conditions with no canteens and rarely have time for meal breaks. They are the ones who ultimately put their life on the line for us, when the time comes.
The Met police has thousands of officers who go out on our streets to really make a difference and guess what? You do, despite the mountains you face as obstacles each day. The public, on a whole do appreciate the work you do and know that you are the most abused work force possible and frequently let down.
We are aware that your morale is low, but know that there are many out there who do value what you do, who are happy to work with you to make the many changes London needs.
As stated, we work with many officers across London, these officers are dedicated and committed to their jobs and really want to see the communities work as they should be. They are just as eager as the public to see their work force rid of those that bring it into disrepute. They also need to be looked after, as so many are suffering PTSD and struggling with their own well being that is not being rightly addressed as it should be.
The spotlight should be on those officers who do these vital, all important roles in our community and who come running when the community needs them, or supports them when they are at their most vulnerable. They are in many right across London and are very rarely acknowledged or supported.
Once again please note, you really are appreciated.
