Elm Park ward Councillor Julie Wilkes is looking for a group of volunteers to help her clear excess water build up along the back of Spring Gardens. The road has garages that belong to pensioners and is now partly flooded due to the build up of excess water.

Councillor Wilkes told the Havering Daily: “A few years ago mindless thugs stole the the grill from the drain and rubbish was then stuffed down it.

Over the years, rain water has built up and is now rising into the back of the garages of the residents whose houses are on Spring Gardens.

I have asked Thames Water to help, but they refused to excavate the excess water when requested.”

Julie is now looking for a group of volunteers to help her brush the water down a drain at the bottom end of Spring Gardens.

“We need the grill replaced once the water is cleared and the rubbish removed to stop the build up of water”, continued Councillor Wilkes.

“I would appeal to anyone who could assist me in pushing water further down the stretch of land towards the drain further along.

Volunteers will need to wear water proof footwear and gloves to protect their hands. Then I can contact Thames Water to come and put a cover on the drain.”

If you would like to help Councillor Wilkes, please email councillorjulie.wilkes@havering.gov.uk or on 07903820584.
