Rainham ward councillor Jackie McArdle is not only a much respected local councillor, but also a green fingered queen! Today, she writes in the Havering Daily on Rainham’s success at the London in Bloom competition.

Rainham Village once again scored well in this year’s London in Bloom awards held at Mile End Ecology Pavilion last month.
Margaret Hayes and Bob Farnsworth from Rainham Allotments proudly received our silver gilt award from Mark Wasilewski head gardener at St, James Park and L.I.B. Judge.
We lost a couple of points from last year mostly due to immature planting, but when you consider the year we have had and the time we had to spend on our entry, I think we did amazingly well.
Margaret , Bob and our very own seed queen Elaine Kite were fundamental this year in our entry, planting, dead heading, watering and weeding and this award truly belongs to these 3 people as I couldn’t have done it without them.Spring Farm Park was awarded Gold and Gold overall in the large parks category, so a very good year for Rainham.
Lots of good things are happening at Rainham Allotments, the garden retreat for The M.C.A. trust should be operational by Christmas. All our schools and groups are still enjoying their plots and benefiting from the sense of community belonging and well being that they bring. We have eight new excited plot holders this year who are working hard to clear and cultivate their new plots ready for spring planting and we should be having our main car park laid with aggregate to make it hard standing  this autumn courtesy of Wates.

There are many local businesses that support our work at the allotments, Bretts, Sharp Skips, Simply Hire, Wates and Havering Changing to name but a few and we couldn’t do any of this without them. We have lots of plans for the new year so please check out our face book page for information.Rainham Allotments Horticultural Society.
