‘It is the ordinary working class people of this country that keeps the economy moving.’
Previous Labour Parliamentary candidate Angelina Leatherbarrow today writes in the Havering Daily.
When Liz Truss talks about “growth, growth, growth” she is right, just not in the way that she wants us to believe.
We have growth in use of food banks, growth in inequality, children living in poverty, mortgage costs, interest rates, growth in the pound notes going into the pockets of the super-rich and it’s the ordinary people around the country that are going to foot the bill. And by the way, when I say ordinary people, I actually think the parents working long hours on poverty wages, keeping their kids fed and warm, the unpaid carers, the workers striking to ensure better pay and working conditions, the Nurses, Teachers, Binmen, Cleaners, Train Drivers and Posties are all pretty extraordinary actually, and much more worthy of public recognition.
It’s the “ordinary” working class people of this country that keeps the economy moving. They know it, and now with industrial action and protests growing, they know that we know it too.
When the Chancellor announced he was u turn on the 45% tax bracket because his KamiKwasi mini budget tanked the pound and sent the country in to a financial meltdown, no-one paid attention to him also saying that they would not be amending public spending to reflect inflation. That means real terms cuts of another £18billion to already broke public services in the next two years. That’s our schools, our NHS, our Social Care and Police spending. They don’t care, because their kids go to private school, they get private health care, they have huge private pensions so they won’t need to rely on the State that they are hellbent on destroying for the rest of us who don’t have the privilege of a hedge fund to fall back on.
Then he tried to blame his actions on the death of the late Queen, despite us all seeing him having a good old giggle at her funeral.
In a recent breakfast TV poll, 90% of respondents want a general election and Labour are over 30 points ahead in many of the polls.
If Truss wants to cut public services even more, to pay for tax cuts for her super rich paymasters, she needs a mandate. No one voted for this, so call a General Election.
When we do get an election, remember who they are. Don’t believe what they say, remember what they do. Remember that they think its ok to restore Bankers bonuses whilst our kids go hungry. That they think its ok for us to pay astronomical energy bills whilst energy giants practically print their own money. Remember all of that and vote them out once and for all.
