An anti knife crime demonstration took place yesterday, Wednesday 7 September, outside of New Scotland Yard on the Embankment. Bereaved mothers from Havering attended to make their voices heard amongst many other mothers and anti knife campaigners who fight daily to stop these horrors from taking place on our streets.

The event was organised by community champion Farah London who works tirelessly with many parents and organisations in the battle to stop knife crime.

Despite the very wet conditions, speeches were made with many passers by stopping to listen to what was being said.

Sue Hedges who lost her son Ricky Hayden to knife crime in 2016, attended with Ricky’s sister April Hayden. The two Havering ladies are dedicated anti knife crime campaigners and their work alongside all the other anti knife crime campaigners, is so vital to our community.

Chris Lambrianou was also present and stood alongside the many at the demo who had lost a loved one to knife crime. Chris is a community champion who turned his life around and dedicated it to helping others stay on the right track. He is a man that puts others first and yesterday gave a moving speech and then asked those who have all lost a loved one to knife crime, to stand beside him in prayer.

It is campaigners and mothers like these that are making a real difference to knife crime. Those in power that should be making an impact are not and these campaigners are the real community heroes.

Thank you to police officers who supported us yesterday and made campaigners feel very welcome. It is as usual, police officers who are first on scene when a stabbing takes place and do their very best to save the youth’s life.
