History, humour and pie and mash!
Romford MASH Heritage Tours Are This Week!
Its 775 years since Romford Market was officially given a charter by King Henry III and the town is filled to the brim with history and stories!Including the time Romford was labelled as a ‘Brewery Blighted Town’ by a very famous social commentator, the swinging decades of Music legends that decended on the town, and of course the years that saw some infamous thieves and philospohers walk our streets.
Join us for a relaxed tour around some of the most historically relevant parts of the town in an hour long immersive journey that tells the whistle stop history of a place seeped in interest, and then of course have a proper taste of the towns heritage with a Pie and Mash at one of the towns longest trading restaurants.
Romford MASH Tours will be on today, Wednesday 24th and Friday 26th August at 10am and 2pm and will begin and end at Robin’s Pie and Mash on South Street in Romford.
It’s free for Romford Residents to join a tour, and includes 1 pie + 1 mash + 1 liquor and a drink.
Sign up through eventbrite and pay a £2 refundable* fee to reserve your place!

The tours have been organised by a full female team of heritage enthusiasts, from the creative organisation The NO Collective, which strives to make contemporary arts more accessible for local people and to help young people get more opportunities in the creative industries.
“The tour brings together some of the best parts of the town which I think as locals we can all relate to: history, humour and pie and mash!”
The tour will be led by a special trader character from the 1800’s – performed by Dagenham born Louise Ann-Munro, this light hearted guide has a background in film and TV including producing her own comedy shorts as a founder of ‘Funny Life Films’.
The research team is made up by young local writers Charlotte and Rebecca. Rebecca has recently completed her Masters studies at Cambridge in Modern History and Charlotte begins her Masters term this September at Warwick in Philosophy and the arts. Both Havering Residents, Charlotte has a penchant for musicals and theatre and Rebecca is budding photographer.
The NO Collective were commissioned by the Havering Changing ‘Romford Change Makers’ a steering group of Romford residents who wanted to find a producer that shared their vision to bring the towns history alive. Sounds, sights, stories, tastes and all!
