On Saturday August 20, a special charity event was held on Wennington Green to raise money for Pippa’s Army who do an amazing job in our community.

The event saw many local residents and councillors come out to support locals with this special event to raise much needed funds for our local animal charity.

Pippa’s Army rescue hundreds of animals across Havering, East London and Thurrock and do a fantastic job in our community. They are run by a team of volunteers who give up endless hours to support our animals.

During the recent tragic Wennington fires, volunteers from the charity spent weeks going through the aftermath to rescue many animals.

On Saturday, residents from the Green held special picnics and raffles to raise as much money as possible for these amazing volunteers.

Local ward Councillor Sue Ospreay told the Havering Daily: “It has been a very challenging few months with the horrific Wennington fire, the ongoing nightmare of Launders Lane and the fire there, and many other problems sadly in the area. However, I am very proud of our residents and events like this show the fantastic community spirit there is here.”

Councillor Natasha Summers from South Hornchurch told the Havering Daily: “It was great to see the Green in use after the tragic scenes we had earlier in the summer. The residents here have been amazing supporting Pippa’s Army who do such an important job in our community.

“Well done to everyone involved.”
