Stop and search/ strip searches row continues-yet youths armed with machetes is a daily occurrence.

The discussion over stop and search and strip searches for children proceeds on a daily basis with some disagreeing with children being searched and many others agreeing that sadly it is important for our community.

Yesterday we saw another video – there are many filmed daily, of youths on the streets of London, faces covered and armed with what appear to be a machete. We cannot tell the ages of the youths but it is certainly possible that they are anywhere from 15 to 18 years old, meaning they could be classified as children.

Whilst these events are sadly a regular occurrence- members of the public are now calling for harsher sentences for those carrying such weapons so brazenly on our streets.

Just last week, a 17 year old youth carrying a zombie knife in Barking and threatening people with it, was sentenced to four months detention. Four months for going out armed with a dangerous weapon and using it to threaten others.

Once again, the police are always in the spotlight, but surely there are many other factors that are equally important.
